Days 304 & 305: Storm Birds

Year 1,

Even though it is not yet even Thanksgiving, winter storms continue to roll through Northern Minnesota. The past two days (November 23 and 24) saw heavy snow and winds gusting above 30 mph. Conditions of this type make bird photography a challenge!

Day 302: The Goldeneyes are Back!

Year 1

One of my favorite winter birds are Goldeneyes. These northern ducks which spend the summer on the Arctic ocean in Canada come south to Lake Superior for the winter. One of their favorite “hang-outs” is the entrance to the Duluth Harbor, Canal Park.

Day 301: Common Redpolls Fighting

Year 1

As the snow gets deeper in the Northwoods, spats over food increase! Photographed these Common Redpolls this morning on Old Vermilion Trail just north of Duluth having a disagreement over who gets to eat first for breakfast!
