Days 179 to 180: Backyard Birding

Often when one heads out birding, the temptation is too find some well know nature location and focus your efforts in that locale. Remember, quite often we should not ignore out own back yards! During the last two days I stayed near my house. The Great Crested Flycatchers were in my own yard and garden. The mallard and chicks were about 700 yards away down on the shore of Lake Superior. The moral of the story … keep your eyes open around your own neighborhood. You may be amazed at what you will see!

Day 178: Morning Beacon!

I drove up the shore before sunrise to take some photos of a rocky island about 400 yards off the Lake Superior shore near Knife River. The sunrise was not spectacular, but I did enjoy these two gulls sitting on a beacon at the entrance to a small harbor. The photo was taken about ten minutes before sunup.

Day 177: Missed!

Spent some time watching and photographing this great blue heron in a northern Minnesota pond. It was trying to catch some breakfast, but having limited success.
