Day 293: Man vs Squirrel in Support of Birds!

During this year long photography project, I have rarely posted photos taken at my own feeders. I actually have a great locations for feeders here in the Northwoods. I live across from Amity Creek and at the edge of a forest. The bird habitat is excellent.

This morning I had a pileated woodpecker in my suet feeder, while two squirrels, both a grey and black squirrel, looked upon the scene with desire!

Day 290: Beauty Before the Storm

Our first major winter storm is bearing down on the Northland. It appears the birds must know this fact, and were busy foraging and eating all day long. Here are a series of photos from sunrise to just before sunset.

Days 285 to 288: Winter Bird Friends

While most of the usual suspects have headed south for the winter, some birds including waterfowl remain with us up here in the frozen Northland. As area lakes start to ice over, if one finds the open water it can often be amazing the density of ducks and geese one will find. Our first snow have now fallen, and we are poised for our first winter storm come Monday. Here are just a few feathered friends who have decided to hang around northern Minnesota for the moment.
