Minnesota (Sung by the Marsh Family)

I have been debating whether I should post about the horrors occurring here in my home state of Minnesota. The World is strange when a family in England beautifully captures in song the horrors occurring here in Minnesota. regardless … thank you Marsh Family … sung to the tune of the classic song, San Francisco. I never expected the federal government to invade my state with masked men.

Worth a listen and watch. The YouTube video is immediately below this screenshot (video link for email subscribers).

I am sorry if I lose subscribers because of this political post, but I can no longer stay silent. Polite comments w/o foul language from all sides of the political spectrum are allowed to this post. However, new individuals and their comments are moderated which can take me up to 24 hours. As a fyi, this is only the 2nd time out of 2,539 posts over 13 years where I have strayed from my core topics … birds, other wildlife and nature.

  1. Thank you for posting this, Rich – I know it’s difficult for people to feel like sometimes they just can’t escape politics… However, these are times unlike we’ve ever seen before, and it’s important to continue to call it out and shed light on what’s happening in MN and the USA.

In a riff off of Elie Wiesel’s wise words “Neutrality favors the oppressor”, in this situation it sure feels like “silence = complicity”.

Thank you again, Rich – love all of your posts, and appreciate your thoughtfulness

  2. This brought me to tears. This is all just so sad, and the tip of the iceberg. Thanks Richard and the Marsh family.

  3. Thank you for sharing this, Rich. It is important and I appreciate all that you share. I don’t think it’s political – it’s human decency. I think the birds would agree, too.

  4. I love your birding content and 100% support your post on this critical issue. Thank you for stepping forward on this matter of conscience.

  5. Thank you so much. When you can’t hear the birds in the city because of sirens and flash bangs, when the air and ground are covered with toxins the government refuses to identify, when the disregard for human life points to developing contempt for the value of wildlife, it actually is about the birds.

  6. You won’t lose me. I’ve been out protesting despite how hard it’s been with the cold!
No reason for this level of cruelty!

  7. Thank you, Rich. We need to speak out to keep informing people what is actually happening here. This is not about ideology or political party, it’s about justice, decency, and the American Constitution.

  8. PLEASE stay away from political posts. I very much enjoy your birding posts but want to throw up when I see all the political rhetoric ………

    1. I understand your view, but this time I will politely disagree. I plan on no more posts that do not pertain to nature and wildlife. I remind anyone reading my comment, this blog is extremely unusual … no advertisers, paid or sponsored links, pop-ups, paywall (substack newsletter subscriptions), etc. In short this website is non commercial and provides birding advice and recommendations. I think only twice in this website’s 13 year history (2,539 posts) have I strayed from my core topic, which implies the subject was very important to me.

      1. Thank you so much. Those of us who understand the magnitude of what is happening in our state must speak out. This is the logical outcome when the president declares a quota for the number of people to be deported and then sends 3,000 agents, ill trained, to arrest people of a certain ethnicity. SHAME.
