Day 114: Lester River Bird Rise!

It was a beautiful, but cool (+39F), sunrise over Lake Superior this morning at the mouth of the Lester River. I now leave the house by 5:15 am and get down to the river by thirty minutes after to catch this kind of light. I think it is well worth effort.

Whether you prefer the “lone bird” photo, or multiple birds, I have a sunrise picture for you!

After the sun was up I found this spotted sandpiper running along the shoreline, and this fox kit warming himself in the early morning sun … a great morning to be alive!

Day 113: Western Waterfront Trail Warblers & More!

Spring continues to show that it might be arriving in the Northland. This morning I took a long hike on the Western Riverfront Trail on the St. Louis River. Even the dark clouds, snow and sleet could not put me off enjoying the new birds arriving into the Minnesota forest. At least the warblers provided some color on an otherwise dreary day!

And some St. Louis River photos also from the trail …

These geese were upset this doe wanted goose eggs for breakfast. A major attack by the geese happened momentarily after this photograph.

Day 112: Addendum – Backyard Bonanza!

Had to add another post for today. The birds are returning! My daughter and son-in-law gave me a hummingbird feeder. I put it up just before sundown yesterday. By 10:00 am the ruby throated hummingbirds had found the feeder. In addition, the rose-breated grosbeaks have found our feeders. Lots of new color!
