Day 174: USAF Thunderbirds!

Even the name says “bird”!

The baseball all star game is down in Minneapolis, and the USAF Thunderbirds are using our airport as a staging location for their flyover. It takes the Thunderbirds just 15 minutes to fly down to Minneapolis (175 miles). I was lucky enough to watch and photograph the Thunderbirds taking off, and had just enough time to drive home (19 miles … rural roads at 55 mph) to watch them fly over my house near Lake Superior. They had traveled 350 miles during the same period! Learn more via Wikipedia (official site linked above)

Day 173: Gulls at Sunrise!

It often pays to photograph into the sun! This freighter was heading down to the lower lakes. The gulls were enjoying breakfast in its wake! After the gulls I found this momma merganser and her brood at Lester River.

Days 170 to 172: Minneapolis Meanderings

The family went down to Minneapolis for the weekend to cheer on my wife’s first time competing in a triathlon. However, the bird project must go on! Time was brief for getting outside to hike and bird, but I still found some neat photo opportunities.
