Day 025: Rocky Mountain Flyway (Canadian Geese)

Shortly after sunrise this morning I drove to some open water I had discovered the prior afternoon in Loveland, Colorado. My hope was I might find some birds who decided to avail themselves of this small amount of H2O. My guess was correct, and I found hundreds, if not thousands, of Canadian Geese which were paused during their northward travels. Within fifteen minutes most of the geese had taken off to move onward. It was a dramatic site.

Day 024: Roadkill Cafe (Bald Eagle)

Antelope, it’s not just for breakfast anymore!

This dramatic site greeted my wife Molly and I this morning on the edge of the Badlands in South Dakota. We were driving down a very small road when I spotted two eagles dining on an antelope who had obviously been killed overnight. One eagle was very willing to let us linger and watch him eat! Here are three photos and a short video from this morning. The landscape photograph was taken about five miles away from where we saw the Bald Eagles feeding.

Day 023: Corn Palace Pigeons

Find the food in the Winter, and find the birds. Thus, in the middle of South Dakota a piece of true Americana exists, the Corn Palace! This venue serves as a local hot spot in Mitchell, South Dakota for concerts, sporting events, and pigeons! You need to understand, the exterior siding is made from corn! This same corn is worked into murals / works of art which then need to be recreated quite often due to wind, weather and pigeon corn consumption.
