Evening Grosbeaks of the Bog

There are definitely lots of grosbeaks and redpolls showing up minute by minute at Sax-Zim Bog. This bird took offence with my comments earlier this morning!

“Who are you calling Gros?! My beak is easily more beautiful than my cousin’s, Pine Grosbeak!”

Two more pics from this morning at the Welcome Center. I would estimate the flock at about 40 birds.

Meanwhile back at home my local birds wanted attention!

  1. Rich, your bird photos are truly an inspiration. You show that equipment costing 10 or even 20 times as much isn’t necessary for good bird photos. But, being an SX70 owner myself, I can also attest I’ve not matched your skill with that camera. Well done and a blessed Thanksgiving to you and your family.

    1. Thanks Bob! Not sure I have any “hidden sx-70 secrets”, but I couple of thinks that I always try to do … 1) Have the sun behind me 2) Force my camera to use a very low ISO 3) Always use an inexpensive monopod to stabilize the camera even more against shakes. 4) Now for the past few months … use Topaz Lab’s Sharpen AI in the “very blurry mode” for almost every image.

  2. Happy Thanksgiving to you & family! The grosbeak pics are wonderful as were the eagles the other day. Thank you!
