As noted in Icelandic Puffin Post #1, I visited the unique puffin colony (Hafnarhólmi) in remote northern Iceland which may be reached by car (boat trip not required) and walking out onto the headland via an elevated boardwalk. This post has photographs focused upon “Wing Flapping & Flight.

Puffin Wing Flapping (After exiting their burrows / dens, a vigorous stretch and session of wing flapping was normally required. The parents would normally leave shortly thereafter to go fishing)


Puffins in Flight (A controlled fall off a cliff to gain speed for effective flight … while puffins are great swimmers they are lousy fliers … puffins would often be chased right to their burrow by seagulls hoping to steal the fish being brought back to the puffin chicks)
